Today's delayed (and almost skipped!) post is brought to you by:
THE SWIMSUIT INDUSTRY!
Can I just say... SEVEN HOURS is not a normal amount of time to have to search the clothing racks for acceptable swimsuits for my teenage daughters.
And by "acceptable" I simply mean modest and un-trashy. I like my girls to look like girls, not prostitutes.
That is all.

Amen, Sister! It's such a frustrating thing these days. Even regular clothes can be hard to come by. OY! Glad you survived. :)
I second that. I do not have daughters but just looking around I see less and less!
I have the same problem when I am looking for a swimsuit, too. I don't want to look TOO trashy…tastefully trashy is so in.
We went to Newport Beach on our vacation. I saw far too much of exactly what you're talking about.
So, Teachinfourth, does that mean u don't wanna buy that speedo?
I so agree . . . and I'm walking into the problem with 6 girls . . . which means needing 6 different modest swimsuits. It's not a real problem yet because they are still small, but it's starting to be one.
You should design some. :)
Or maybe we will.
i have three words for you.
sporting goods store.
one more word.
speedo.
i was totally going to write a post about this very thing about a month ago! ugh!!!! what do they think our girls are anyway????? stores ONLY sell bikinis. ONLY!!!! or backless suits...or...ugh ugh ugh!!!
I just bought a few from limericki swimwear. Super cute and fashionable and modest. We have a hard time because I have one daughter with a really long torso and is super thin. She has to have a tankini but doesn't want her belly to show.
Two words: Lands End.
Darling tankinis in all colors, shapes, and sizes...and interchangeable, too!
=)
I was going to say the same thing as Sue - Lands End has some good options for not-too-scary or sexy suits. Also where can I get me one of those suits in your photo - it looks like the Burka swimwear collection. Finally, swimwear to feel comfortable in.
And as for "Mr. Tastefully Trashy," I'm thinking something in a "Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini" theme would be just the thing.
I'm cracking up over these Teachin4th comments...verra funny. Lands' End does have good suits.
Lands End, for sure. You can get them sometimes at Sears if she wants to look in person and not online. They are modest with lots of choices.
Thanks for the ideas, all. Land's End will be our first stop next year. Although the drawback there is that they can't be tried on before purchasing. Regardless, thanks for your comments and suggestions. 4P is one of my favorite blog neighborhoods because of all of you!
