I ventured to the store not that long ago, and saw Pop Rocks at a display by the check stand. I couldn’t help but grin, remembering this candy from when I was a kid, taking a whole envelopeful and dumping it in my mouth.
The sizzling, popping sound, as well as the electric tingle on my tongue was indescribable.
I reached into the bin and sifted through the various and sundry flavors.
Strawberry.
How could one go wrong with that?
That’s exactly what I thought.
So instead of writing a long, detailed post today, I instead decided instead to make a short video.
I present it without further ado…

My little cousin, Taylor, brought some Pop Rocks in a few weeks ago and was sweet enough to share them with me. Pop Rocks were so much fun when I was a kid...it was great getting to re-live a childhood thrill. Like you I had to play around with the mouth open/mouth closed sound effects....I especially love chomping down on a couple rocks to get a really loud POP! Nice facts about the pop rocks and soda combo...but I noticed you didn't actually TRY it on camera!
I'm a long time lurker and have finally worked up the guts to comment on the blogs that I frequent. Anyways, poprocks are sounding like a great stocking stuffer. My kids have had them several times and they chew chew chew until they're all gone. Too quick to experience just letting them pop or experiment with the open/close mouth. I guess it takes 'maturity' to really get the most out of the experience.
Oh my stinkin' heck! How in the world did you just do that with a straight face? I am sitting here on the couch laughing hysterically watching you do this.
I LOVE pop rocks! It was so rare as a kid that I'd get any candy but when I did......oh boy do I remember Pop Rocks! Way totally cool and I'd sit with my mouth opening listening just as you demonstrated. I'm gonna go and get me and The Natives some. Pop Rock party at the Rubows!!!!
I have no words, but lots and lots of laughs!
Ahhh... Pop Rocks. Loved them as a kid, love them still. I buy them all the time. What's not to love? It's like a party in your mouth! Thanks for inviting us all to yours. ;0)
Amazing sound! I enjoyed reading the Pop Rocks trivia with the video. Now I want to go get some Pop Rocks, but we have snow, snow and more snow on it's way. No school for us today! Hooray!
How do you come up with this stuff? You are not actually an adult. What's that movie with Tom Hanks when he switches with the kid? BIG. That's you. The facial expressions were hilarious. That's Lawson all over. Open mouth. Shut mouth. Open mouth again, just in case it sounds different. Shut mouth. And the commentary was cool. I totally believed the soda thing--wouldn't ever drink Coke with pop rocks. It was sort of like Bloody Mary in a pitch black bathroom mirror three times over your shoulder. Spooky.
from the mouth of my 4th grader...."mom, i really feel like pop rocks right now." :)
I'll have you know I have a stash of pop rocks at my house. My HUSBAND loves them. However, I don't usually laugh at him when he's eating them the way I just did while watching you! Thanks, you just made my day. Oh, and a certain little boy enjoyed it as well.
IDK, think somethings should stay in the past just because they won't be as good as they were back then....
I think it would have been fun if mom was here so we could have tried these together. I think I lived in a vacuum as I never had these. I remember when mom gave me some bubblegum when we were traveling and tried to get me to blow a bubble. As I remember the younger kids were in the car and I blew the gum hard and it shot out of my mouth and on to the windshield. At least everyone got a good laugh out of it....I just kept driving like it was normal, picked it back up and chewed it more..... Never really got that down.
Pop Rocks are AWESOME! They're just as fun now as they were when I was a kid. Actually, maybe even more so. I wonder if Whistle Pops and Astro Pops are still as great as they used to be? I may have to find some and give them a try.
Shoe - Why do it if it's already been proved?
Karin - Thanks for de-lurkifying yourself. Welcome to 4p! As for Pop Rocks...I need to get myself a few more packs.
Rachel - Pop Rock Party? Now THAT'S a theme!
Denae - I certainly hope that this won't make me not taken seriously as an educator now...
Natalie - Par-tay is right!
Amy - It could dump about 10 feet of snow and we'd still have school...of course, snow happens all the time. Hope you enjoyed your day off.
Linn - I almost didn't run it, Gerb said that I should.
Lori - I told you that Lawson and I would get along swimmingly...besides, Pop Rocks are just so dang fun, how could you NOT want to do something like this?
Mist - To be honest, I feel that I need another package of them, too.
Janett - Bring me some tomorrow?
Wait, 'the boy' saw the video? Uh oh...hopefully I'm still cool.
Bonnie - You know what? They were just as great as I remembered...only now I have enough money to buy as many as I want.
Dad - Seriously? I had no idea that that happened! Fun memories...
Gerb - Aren't they just spectacular? I had a Whistle Pop a few years ago...still cool, but couldn't hold a candle to P.R.
My mom owns a candy & gift shop and she asked me if there was anything that I wanted her to stock - I told her Pop Rocks! It was so fun to let my son try them for the first time, what an AWESOME candy!
I enjoyed that you included all the urban legends and did it in the pop up video form again. And you can go wrong with strawberry, if one is allergic. I only say that bc I sadly am. Never have had them they require me to carry an epi-pen just by being in their mere presence. Silly little fruit.
Sarah - Aren't they just about the coolest candy in the entire universe?
Lars - Allergic? My.heavens. I am so sorry...I don't know if I could survive on this planet without their wonderful taste.
Well, I bet I could...
that was really interesting i didn't know those things
Okay not only do I love pop rocks but I love how you did the "pop up video" thing as well. LOVE it!
