There is something about having a new baby in the house that I can only describe as magical.
I'm not sure if the love that everyone has for this newest tiny human being in our family just spills over onto everything else, causing a general feeling of happy contentment. Maybe it's just a peaceful feeling that comes about from seeing a smallish someone who is just starting out in this life, perfect and new. Whatever it is, these feelings seem to have permeated our home over the past few weeks and it has been bliss.
I love this poem which we found in the life history of Allen's maternal grandmother. I think she captures perfectly what I'm trying to say.
You're Welcome
You're welcome little stranger babe,
As welcome as the spring
That drives the winter gloom away
And brings the birds to sing.
The boon of love you brought to me
Was like a gift divine
To build and hold us heart to heart
Forever, baby mine.
You're welcome little stranger babe,
As welcome as the spring
That drives the winter gloom away
And brings the birds to sing.
The boon of love you brought to me
Was like a gift divine
To build and hold us heart to heart
Forever, baby mine.
I love being a mother. Again.

A baby keeps u young.. that is what I was told.. I was 35 when I got pregnant w/my third... We thought we were done since the other two were 3 and 6 when the third was born.. In 1989 it was still a bit 'new' for mid 30's women to have a third, at least it was for this gal.. Majority of my friends were done w/diapers, co-ops, gymboree...Having a baby at 35 was certainly different than when I had the other two at 27 and almost 30..I love that poem, it certainly fits.
Ooooohhhhh!! I loved this post, so sweet! I am counting down the days to my follow-up cat scan and the "ok" from my doctor to "try" for number 3.
Congrats on your sweet and healthy miracle!!!
It seems lately that I've been bombarded by much that is negative about families and mothering . . . I've just been soaking up all the good things!
This post is one of those good things!
Oh, and what on earth happened to Lori?!!?!?!?
Gerb, that photo speaks a thousand words.
@Anaise: Lori is still with the land of the living, she has just needed to take a temporary leave of absence. We anticipate that she'll be back and better than ever after the bionics are fully integrated into her system.
Okay, I made up the bionics part...
Gerb - (can I call you by your first name? 'cuz I don't really know you, but I read you so...anyway) You are an inspiring mother. Many days I flounder as a mother of 5. Thanks for pointing out some of the beauty of motherhood. (Any advice on 7 year old boys. Mine seems to be a little crazy. Or am I crazy? Hard to tell.)
Gerb, Love!!! The photo and the poem. It's so true. I just love babies. I'll have to live vicariously through you. Still need to get my bum over to see you!!
KBF- It must be keeping me young to have all of these babies because I get asked all the time, "Is this your first?" I love it.
Sarah- You want to know what else is sweet? That package you sent! The mister and I have been enjoying having little treats to ourselves when the kids aren't looking. YUM! I can't wait to hear that you're expecting again. You and Gila-man make some dang cute little people.
Anaise- Thanks! I'm sure you know just what I'm talking about.
T5th- It does. I wish I could get a picture of Coolister holding him, too. But he just makes goofy faces as soon as I get the camera out. I need to work on my stealth.
Karin- You can SO call me Gerb! And I'll call you Karin. ;) Thanks for the compliment and the comment. Advice on 7 year old boys? It's better to laugh when they make you want to cry. And don't tell yourself he's going to be a handful as a teenager - tell yourself he's going to be a fun teenager. That's all I've got right now. I'll have to click over to your blog and see what you've got over there. :)
Rachel- You are welcome to visit anytime you want. Come on over whenever you feel up to it!
Love the Picture!!
Love the Poem!!
You do bake some pretty good looking, awesome kids there.
Thank you for sharing your family with us. I do so love to hear that other families have the same beautiful, goofy, silly, frustrating, amazing, sad, happy, crazy kind of moments like we have.
